What is ortho-k (orthokeratology)?

Have you ever dreamt of a safe, reversible alternative to laser eye surgery? Orthokeratology (“EyeDream”) is a vision-correction therapy that works whilst you sleep – what could be better than that?

Ortho-K works while you sleep

EyeDream contact lenses correct your vision while you sleep. They do this by applying a controlled shape to the cornea which is the front surface of the eye, eliminating myopia (short-sightedness).

The lenses are removed in the morning allowing you to see clearly all day long without spectacles or contact lenses. It is the perfect solution – and don’t worry, you can also see clearly with the lenses in at night or first thing in the morning.

Can anyone use Orthokeratology technology?

For this treatment to work, your spectacle correction needs to be a spherical prescription of between -0.75D up to -4.50D with astigmatism up to a maximum of -2.50D.

Research and experience show that this whole process is 100% reversible. So, if you decide to stop wearing EyeDream contact lenses the eye will return to its original shape and you will see clearly with your glasses again.

What are EyeDream contact lenses made from?

To make it possible to wear the lenses overnight, they are made from one of the highest oxygen-permeable materials, Boston XO, for maximum comfort and safety during overnight wear. The other unique benefit with EyeDream lenses is that unlike normal lens wear the eye spends its waking hours with natural oxygen levels, uninhibited by contact lenses.

The lenses take a bit of adaptation time but do not hurt and require a little practice to put them in and take them out, but with training from your optometrist, help and guidance you will soon get the hang of it!

Sounds fantastic! Where do I get the EyeDream contact lenses from?

If this sounds like just what you are looking for, all you have to do is book a consultation with your local opticians who specialise in Ortho-K. If your eyes are suitable you will have a corneal map taken on a topographer and from the data gathered we will then order your unique lenses. We will give you full instruction on the use of your lenses and monitor your eye health and prescription regularly at three-six monthly intervals.

If you are myopic (short-sighted), orthokeratology is a great alternative to spectacles, daytime contact lenses and laser treatments.
